John Newton has served as Rector of St. Michael’s since 2018. A native Texan and graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, John received his Master of Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary in 2008 and was ordained to the priesthood in 2009.

John is the author of three books and loves preaching, teaching, and helping people discover the grace of God in the midst of ordinary life. He is married to his best friend, Emily, and they live in Austin with their three children—Annie, K.K., and Jack—and their golden retriever, June.
